Are you a Mutant?
14 August 2009
Researchers at the University of California in San Francisco have found a genetic link to how much sleep we need. There are some famous cases of people surviving on only a few hours; Margaret Thatcher was said to function perfectly well on only 4 hours sleep a night. Scientists think they have found the genetic mutation that allows people to survive on an amount of sleep that many if us would struggle to get through the day on.
The scientists hope that by understanding the biology of our sleep needs they can develop drugs that help us stay awake for longer without an adverse effect on our health.
