Cancer payouts for Nightshift workers

Interesting news from Denmark where the government has begun to pay compensation to women who have worked nightshifts and gone on to suffer from Breast Cancer. The payouts are based on a report from the International Agency for the Research of Cancer (IARC). What they have found is that if you worked nightshifts for more than 30 years you have a 36% increased chance of developing breast cancer. According to Dr Vincent Cogliano of the IARC disturbed sleep patterns can lead to a lack of Melatonin and according to Dr. Cogliano "Melatonin has some beneficial effects in preventing some of the steps leading to cancer."
